Information on Islamic Education in the Middle Ages

Information technology is generally dominated by the West, which is primarily oriented toward the interests of capitalism rooted in secularism and materialism, while neglecting norms, ethics, and moral imperatives that should serve the development of human quality in a comprehensive manner. In contrast, Islam places the inspiration of tawhid as the foundation for developing information theory, which is further cultivated through moral and ethical dimensions. The Qur’an outlines four ethical principles of information: fairness (honesty), accuracy (precision), responsibility, and constructive criticism. However, the challenge of Western domination in the field of information clearly violates, influences, and even shifts the values of Muslim life. This domination increasingly penetrates and overwhelms, corroding and submerging, and eventually replacing the existing culture and value system. In such a situation, the role of Islamic educational institutions becomes crucial in bringing about meaningful change and significant contributions to the advancement of the Muslim community. This paper offers a re-examination of the function of Islamic educational institutions in reforming curricula and pedagogical methodologies. Furthermore, educators are required to possess broad scientific and Islamic perspectives in order to critically receive and absorb various streams of information developing in society, and effectively integrate them into the teaching and learning process.
